Dust Protection During Your Remodel: How McFall Builders Protects Your Home

By September 19, 2019Uncategorized

Remodeling is an exciting time for homeowners. You may be making small adjustments to refresh your space or you might be choosing to completely transform your home. Either way, remodeling activities create dust. This means your contractors need to have a plan in place to tackle dust protection.

The Importance of Dust Protection

No one wants dust to circulate in their homes, especially during times of construction and renovation. And, in most cases, you’ll be living in your home while renovations are being completed.

Dust is a nuisance because it causes breathing problems, clings to your furniture, and wreaks havoc on your HVAC system. That’s why dust protection is an essential part of your remodeling project.

Our Process

McFall Builders has been renovating, building, and creating beautiful homes and spaces for over 35 years, in that time we’ve developed and fine-tuned our process to protect your home during your remodeling project. We know just how important it is to keep your home dust-free.

Separation & Isolation

We first find a passage in and out of the area where renovations will take place. Our team then creates an isolated job site by blocking off all access points between the workspace and your living space.

Once the work area is defined, we use plastic and tape to seal gaps. This creates a dust protection wall. We securely tape plastic along edges, seams, and thresholds to create a barrier. We also make sure to cover surfaces that won’t be removed or altered such as floors and countertops.

The floor protection process is equally important. We start by laying down a thick, water-resistant, and durable floor protection. Then, we can easily attach our dust wall protection plastic to the floor protection. Note, we ensure that we don’t attach the dust wall protection to your actual floors so there can be no damage. This is especially important in homes that have real hardwood, engineered, slate tile or laminate flooring.

Job Cleanliness

We pride ourselves on job cleanliness during and after the project is completed. During times of heavy construction, we use a negative air pressure system that sucks the dust out of the affected work areas in short intervals. Our team also maintains cleanliness with a variety of tools including dust removers, collectors, and hoses.

You should be able to enjoy your new space as soon as we wrap up on site. Instead of worrying about cleaning up, we take care of tidying up once the job is finished.

Don’t DIY When It Comes to Dust Protection

Remodeling can sometimes seem more viable to do it yourself rather than choosing to hire a remodeling contractor. But when you try to tackle an entire remodeling project by yourself, you risk damage, higher costs, and uncontrollable dust.

Managing dust is harder to do on your own because you’ll be going back and forth from the job site and your home. Plus, almost every single task involved in remodeling will create some sort of dust. Demolition, installing flooring, and adding fixtures all create dust that will need to be managed, by you!
